About Us / Our Story / Who We Are

Our Mission & Guiding Principles

Chrysalis House provides a safe, secure, and supportive shelter to women and gender-diverse individuals over 16 and their dependents, who are escaping violence or abuse.

We are committed to dignity, inclusivity, accessibility and trauma-informed care. Whether you are cis, trans, two-spirit, non-binary or otherwise gender-diverse, we welcome you and respect your identity.

Our goal: to offer more than shelter; we offer a place to heal, regroup, and rebuild with support, safety planning, and access to services that can help you and your dependents move forward on your own terms.

Who We Serve

  • Self-identified women and gender-diverse individuals (cis and trans women, non-binary, two-spirit, etc.) aged 16+, who are experiencing gender-based violence.
  • Their dependents — children or others — who may need support, safety, and a place to stay.
  • People from diverse backgrounds — any age, culture, sexual orientation, race, ability — we strive to ensure a welcoming, inclusive and accessible environment.

Safety, Support & Crisis Intervention

We offer 24/7 crisis support, safety planning, and individualized guidance to help survivors navigate immediate and long-term needs. Our staff provide emotional support, system navigation, and assistance with legal processes, housing options, financial resources, and referrals to community services — all grounded in trauma-informed, survivor-centered care.

Children, Youth & Family Support

We support children, youth, and families impacted by violence through age-appropriate programming, counselling, and crisis response. Our services include safety planning for children, emotional support, advocacy within school and childcare systems, and access to group or recreational activities that foster healing and stability for young people.

Accessible, Inclusive Shelter & Practical Supports

Chrysalis House provides a fully accessible, barrier-free shelter environment with supports tailored to diverse needs, including cis and trans women, non-binary, two spirit, and gender-diverse survivors.

Residents have access  to essentials such as toiletries, clothing, mobility-friendly spaces, baby supplies, food, transportation support, and referrals for medical or mental health needs.
